Principal of the Maimonides Middle/Upper School

The principal of the middle/upper school at Maimonides (Grades 6-12) is a leader who represents the school’s vision, philosophy, and educational objectives and skillfully manages day-to-day operations based on the school’s mission. The principal has overall responsibility for religious and academic programming; leadership, supervision, and evaluation of Limudei Kodesh faculty; school policies; and curriculum development. Primary to all educational and programmatic endeavors, the principal strives to uphold the fundamental hashkafa of Maimonides School based on the ideology of its founder, Rav Soloveitchik.
Reports to: Executive Director

Professional Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Relevant Master’s degree
  • Three or more years of teaching experience
  • Three or more years administrative experience in a day school environment (high school experience preferred)
  • Proven track record of management accomplishments in hiring, supervision, evaluation, curriculum development and review

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Vision

  • Serves as Judaic leader of the middle/upper school, and cultivates an environment that promotes respect in all aspects of student life and that reflects the hashkafic values of Maimonides School.
  • Leads, supervises, and evaluates the Limudei Kodesh faculty and fosters an atmosphere of growth and cooperative interaction among faculty.
  • Serves as a primary spokesperson for the Maimonides middle/upper school, both within the school and to the Jewish community at large.
  • Works in partnership with the administration of other divisions of the school, particularly in the areas of limudei kodesh curriculum and avira.
  • Establishes a strong rapport with students and is seen by students as a personal and religious role model.
  • Works with the Rosh Yeshiva, together with the staff, to oversee and promote all aspects of religious life.

Supervision of the Academic Program

  • Oversees the ongoing development and implementation of a high-quality limudei kodesh curriculum.
  • Recruits, hires, and retains top quality middle/upper school limudei kodesh faculty. Works with the General Studies principal to recruit, hire, and retain top quality middle/upper school general studies faculty.
  • Works with the General Studies principal to ensure that all middle/upper school faculty are provided with ongoing supervision and performance evaluations, and that performance issues are addressed in a timely and consistent fashion.
  • Works toward continuous improvement of the academic program.
  • Oversees the provision of professional development opportunities in partnership with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Oversees Director of Support Services.
  • Supports the implementation of the strategic plan.

Admissions and Parent/Student Relations

  • Participates in school recruitment initiatives, welcomes all prospective families and students, and educates families about the religious culture and expectations of the school.
  • Together with the Director of Admissions, coordinates admission decisions for the middle/upper school.
  • Leads and facilitates open communication among parents, teachers, staff and students.
  • Conducts ongoing communication with parents regarding students’ progress and potential areas of concern, and assumes a proactive role in student retention efforts.
  • Oversees and implements an effective program to model, teach, and maintain appropriate student behavior based on the school’s hashkafic values.

Budget

  • Develops, monitors, and administers the annual middle/upper school budget, subject to the oversight of the Executive Director and the approval of the Board.

Senior Accountant

Maimonides seeks a Senior Accountant to provide assistance and report to the Director of Finance and Accounting. The Senior Accountant’s primary responsibilities include oversight of the general ledger accounting system to ensure complete and accurate financial information, timely preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis, preparation of work-papers for the annual audit, and comprehensive reconciliations of accounts receivable, tuition, financial aid, investments, payroll and related taxes and cash.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting along with five years of non- profit accounting experience. Independent school experience is preferred but not required. Proficiency in both Excel and QuickBooks are required. The successful candidate will also possess solid organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, along with strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Director of Institutional Advancement

The newly created Director of Institutional Advancement will spearhead a unified, professional, strategic approach to Maimonides School’s overall long-range and big-picture institutional goals. As a member of the senior administrative team reporting to the Executive Director, he or she will oversee and manage a growing Institutional Advancement team consisting of our Development, Admissions & Recruitment, Communications, PR, Alumni and Community Relations professionals.

In particular, the Director of Institutional Advancement will take our fundraising to the next level by working to combine annual and capital giving with the introduction of planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and creative use of the newest technologies. Our Annual Campaign, which currently raises on the order of $1.5 million each year, has historically consisted of a gala dinner event and adbook campaign. This effort needs to evolve while at the same time be integrated with major gifts, funding for special projects, and an initiative to rebuild our endowment beginning in 2012. This is an excellent opportunity to build a complete development program for one of the region’s most prestigious Jewish day schools.

The Director of Institutional Advancement will have the support of a dedicated Board of Directors, a team of top-notch professional and administrative staff, lay leaders, and volunteers rooted in a committed and involved parent community.

    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least seven years of solid Development experience. Experience in Jewish communal work is preferred.
  • Appreciation and understanding of Maimonides School’s mission, paired with the ability to communicate it in an effective and inspiring manner. Familiarity with modern Orthodox Judaism is strongly preferred.
  • Creative visionary force with the ability to fashion and implement a comprehensive institutional advancement program.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive long-term relationships with administrators, parents, faculty, Board members, and major donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced organization emphasizing teamwork, respect, and excellence.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a knack for tailoring the “voice” to a range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and an attention to detail.
  • Self-confidence, high-energy, a “can-do” personality and a passion to do whatever needs to be done to accomplish established goals.
  • Literate, professional demeanor coupled with a warm, down-to-earth personality. Sense of humor is preferred!
  • Demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • A successful track record of running an annual campaign.
  • An understanding of the Boston Jewish philanthropic community.
